At a recent event, members of the Lewis County community gathered to celebrate the presentation of a significant check aimed at combating the opioid crisis. Among those present were Kyle Bobo, Bill Dyer, Brian Peery, Jamie English Sr., Mike Guarnere, Jeff Gandy, Adam Nutt, Lamberth Woodward, Ron Dash, Tim Cotham, David Grimes, Larry Pigg, Caleb Feichtinger, and Jonah Keltner.
The Lewis County Government has allocated $31,544 in opioid abatement funds to the Lewis County Faith Based Recovery Coalition. This funding is intended to bolster recovery initiatives and enhance addiction treatment efforts within the community. Established six years ago by a group of local church leaders, the Coalition is dedicated to providing faith-based programs, educational resources, and support services for individuals and families affected by addiction.
Lewis County Mayor Jonah Keltner emphasized the county’s commitment to addressing the opioid crisis. He stated that both the county and its commissioners are determined to invest in the well-being of local residents, aiming to offer hope and assistance to those grappling with addiction. The funding awarded to the Coalition originates from Tennessee’s portion of a multi-billion-dollar settlement with pharmaceutical companies, which were found to have played a significant role in the national opioid epidemic. Legally, these funds are designated specifically for opioid abatement and recovery initiatives.
To secure this funding, the Coalition underwent a rigorous application and interview process. They are also required to submit annual reports detailing how the funds are utilized and the outcomes achieved as a result of their efforts.
