Lewis County Jail’s GED Program Achieves Notable Successes

Sheriff Tiller of Lewis County is eager to bring attention to the GED program currently being offered at the Lewis County Jail, praising the collective efforts of everyone involved in helping incarcerated individuals achieve their educational goals. The program was launched in July 2023, and since then, it has made significant strides. Notably, the first group of graduates successfully earned their GEDs in January 2024, marking a pivotal moment for the initiative.

On Wednesday, another cohort completed their studies, contributing to the program’s growing success. To date, a total of 11 individuals in custody have successfully obtained their GEDs, a testament to their hard work and determination. Sheriff Tiller expressed his deep pride in these individuals for their accomplishments, highlighting the importance of education even in challenging circumstances.

Moreover, Sheriff Tiller extended his gratitude to the dedicated staff who have played crucial roles in this program. He specifically recognized Programs Coordinator Tia Brown, Co-J.A. Jill Norris, Captain Josh Keltner, and all personnel at the jail for their unwavering commitment to this initiative. Their efforts have been instrumental in creating an environment conducive to learning and personal growth.

Additionally, a special mention was made of Julie Harlan from the South-Central Tennessee Workforce Alliance, whose direct involvement and dedication have been vital in bringing this program to fruition.
