Lewis County officials have received notification from representatives of TEMA and FEMA regarding a financial assistance package amounting to $97,333. This funding is designated to help the county manage the costs associated with debris removal following the tornado that impacted the area on April 1, 2023. According to FEMA, the allocation will be divided between departments, with the Solid Waste Department set to receive $6,951 and the Highway Department allocated $90,382.
The funding structure consists of a federal contribution covering 75% of the total amount, while the remaining 25% will be provided by the state. After navigating a lengthy process, county representatives successfully submitted all necessary documentation to FEMA, which has paved the way for the county to secure these essential funds for recovery efforts.
