Loretto Police Make Arrest After Incident at Construction Site

In a recent update from the Loretto Police Department shared via Facebook, it was reported that on Thursday, November 27, law enforcement officers responded to a call regarding an individual seen exiting a window of a construction site located on Commerce Street. Upon their arrival, the individual displayed aggressive behavior, hurling profanities and brandishing two large sticks while disregarding police instructions as he moved toward North Military Street, also known as Highway 43.

Corporal Reed from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department intervened by tackling the individual just as he attempted to strike Loretto Officer Gary Mills. Despite the efforts of the officers, the suspect continued to resist arrest. It was only with the assistance of Investigator Jeff Dunn, his spouse, and off-duty St. Joseph Officer Jason Jantke that the individual was ultimately subdued and taken into custody.

The suspect has been identified as Adan Castillo, a resident of Washington State. He now faces multiple charges, including criminal trespassing, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest. It is important to note that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Authorities have also highlighted a growing concern regarding the increase in the homeless population in the area. They urge community members to exercise caution when offering assistance to those in need. If anyone feels uneasy about a situation or requires help, they are encouraged to reach out to Lawrence County E-911 at 762-0450 for support.
