Madison County District Attorney Assumes Control of Investigation into Deshler Student’s Injury

Recent developments have emerged regarding the case of August Borden, a student from Deshler High School who sustained a serious skull fracture and concussion last month. The Madison County District Attorney’s Office has assumed control of the investigation from Colbert County due to a potential conflict of interest. Following the incident at school, Borden was hospitalized, and his parents have raised concerns about the explanation provided by school officials, which attributed the injuries to a fall. They pointed out that their son is unable to recall the events leading up to his injuries because of the severity of his condition.

The Borden family has expressed their distress over the impact of this incident on August’s life, noting that he is missing out on significant experiences during his freshman year, including events like homecoming. Additionally, they shared the heartbreaking news that he will not be able to participate in football again. Despite the challenges they are facing, the family has conveyed their gratitude for the support they have received from the community during this difficult time.

Madison County District Attorney Rob Broussard has indicated that his office is actively conducting interviews with students and other potential witnesses as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Should any charges arise from this inquiry, they will be processed through the juvenile probation office in Franklin County, which holds jurisdiction in the Lawrence County District Court.
