A man who made an attempt on the life of a police officer in Florence and managed to escape from the Lauderdale County Detention Center on two separate occasions has accepted a plea deal that results in a life sentence. Christopher Wayne Kilpatrick, aged 51, entered a guilty plea on Tuesday, admitting to multiple charges including two counts of second-degree escape, third-degree escape, first-degree promoting prison contraband, and the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
During the proceedings, Judge Ben Graves of the Lauderdale County Circuit Court explained to Kilpatrick that the plea agreement stipulates a life sentence for each of the charges, with the possibility of parole. However, it is important to note that these sentences will be served consecutively, meaning that Kilpatrick will face a lengthy period of incarceration. In addition to the charges he pleaded guilty to, Kilpatrick was also facing charges of first-degree theft of property, third-degree burglary, and breaking and entering a vehicle. As part of the plea agreement, those additional charges have been dropped.
