Man with Weapon Detained After Making Marriage Proposal to Store Employee

In a bizarre incident at Bonnertown Store, an armed man was apprehended on Wednesday after an unconventional marriage proposal to a clerk turned threatening. The unsettling episode unfolded as two clerks were seated outside the store, only to be approached by 26-year-old Dustin Brian Burgett. Burgett, seemingly infatuated, initiated a marriage proposal to one of the clerks. However, when met with rejection, he swiftly brandished a knife from his overalls, escalating the situation with menacing gestures and erratic behavior.

Fearing for their safety, the clerks sought refuge by retreating into the store and barricading themselves in a bathroom, promptly alerting authorities by dialing 911. Burgett was subsequently taken into custody on charges of two counts of aggravated assault and is currently detained on a $40,000 bond. Upon searching Burgett, law enforcement officers discovered not only the knife but also a peculiar assortment of items in his possession.

Among the items found were a bouquet of red roses, a box containing wedding rings, a substantial sum of $3,600 in cash, and a loaded shotgun. The peculiar combination of objects further deepened the mystery surrounding Burgett’s intentions and mental state during the alarming encounter at the store. The swift response of the clerks in seeking help averted a potentially dangerous outcome, highlighting the importance of vigilance and prompt action in such unforeseen circumstances.
