Marshall Edward “Ed” Hines, age 90, of Florence, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2025, surrounded by his family. Ed was a devout Christian, a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the Church of Christ. He was known for his gentle spirit, steadfast work ethic, and the quiet strength that shaped his life. He lived out his faith with humility and consistency, earning the respect and admiration of all who knew him. His 46-year marriage to Jan was a true partnership built on love, mutual respect, and shared values. The example they set—individually and together—touched the lives of so many. To his nieces, nephews, and the generations that followed, “Uncle Ed” was more than family—he was a guiding presence, deeply loved and admired.
He is survived by his wife, Jan Hines; son, Steve Hines; sister-in-law, Janette Cobb; and a host of nieces and nephews who cherished him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy Lee and Eva Hines, and his ten siblings.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Killen Church of Christ in Killen, Alabama. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the church, officiated by Minister Stan Dean. Burial will be at Emmaline Stutts Cemetery in Florence, Alabama with full Military Honors.
