The Maury County Office of Emergency Management has unveiled an initiative to enhance public safety and readiness for severe weather by installing seven new outdoor warning sirens throughout the county. The installation process is anticipated to occur within the next four to six weeks. These sirens will be strategically placed at various locations, including Maury County Park, Chickasaw Park, Yanahli Park, and several educational institutions such as Mt. Pleasant Schools, Hampshire Unit School, Culleoka Unit School, and Santa Fe Unit School.
The primary function of these sirens is to alert individuals who are outdoors, prompting them to seek shelter when severe weather conditions arise. In addition to the county’s efforts, the City of Columbia is set to enhance its safety measures by adding 12 new sirens, while the City of Mt. Pleasant will install one, thereby establishing a robust outdoor warning system across the entire Maury County area.
The emergency management office has urged residents to utilize a variety of methods to stay informed about weather alerts. These methods include NOAA Weather Radios, mobile applications, and local news channels, ensuring that the community remains well-informed and prepared. For further details on how to prepare for severe weather, residents are encouraged to visit the Maury County Office of Emergency Management’s official website or its Facebook page.
