May Statistics for Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services

In May, the Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) shared its monthly performance statistics, revealing a busy month for the department. During this period, the EMS received a total of 675 requests for assistance, leading to the transportation of 459 patients. The majority of these transports involved local transfers to Southern Tennessee Regional Hospital in Lawrenceburg. Additionally, 61 patients were taken to Maury Regional Hospital, while 7 were transported to Southern Tennessee Regional in Pulaski. The North Alabama Medical Center received 17 patients, and 49 individuals were transported to facilities in non-adjoining counties.

The department also recorded 120 instances where patients refused care or did not require any medical attention. There were 69 calls that were either canceled or resulted in no patient being found. Furthermore, the EMS responded to 27 requests for fire standby, law enforcement assistance, and mutual aid, along with 4 community outreach events. Notably, the call volume for May was nearly 20% higher than that of April 2025 and showed a 15% increase compared to May 2024.

In terms of training and education, responders participated in pediatric assessment and poisoning education sessions throughout the month. All staff members underwent a comprehensive review focusing on shock treatment and pharmacology related to a new medication that the department is now using to address shock. Moreover, Lawrence County EMS organized a regional education day in Lawrenceburg, where responders gained insights into brain and inhalation injuries. They also engaged in a hands-on brain dissection lab to deepen their understanding of neurology.

The department was active in the community as well, conducting several outreach events. These included CPR training sessions with the staff at David Crockett State Park, First Aid and CPR training with personnel from Christ Life Academy, a Bleeding Control and Harm Reduction workshop at the Loretto Senior Center, and a show-and-tell event at Little Lambs Daycare. Through these initiatives, the Lawrence County EMS continues to enhance its service and community engagement.
