On Friday, investigators announced the completion of on-site operations at the Accurate Energetic Systems facility located in McEwen, which was the scene of a tragic explosion at a munitions plant that resulted in the loss of 16 lives. Preliminary investigations suggest that the blast originated from the lower level of the facility, specifically in the area where TNT is mixed in melting pots. It has been estimated that the explosion involved approximately 24,000 pounds of explosives.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that they have identified 14 of the 16 victims involved in this devastating incident. Following the thorough assessment of the site, it has been declared safe for further investigation. However, the analysis of the evidence collected will be conducted by state laboratories, and it is anticipated that determining the exact cause of the explosion may take some time.
