The meeting commenced by honoring former educator Johnny Eledge as the Ethel Young Benson Retired Teacher recipient. Additionally, Summertown High School student Atley Thornton was recognized as the Student of the Month, alongside Summertown Middle School student Caiden Potts.
Director Adkins provided updates, mentioning that the budget was nearing completion and would soon be presented to the County Commission Budget Committee the following Thursday. Adkins also noted the pending arrival of 3rd-grade data and announced that summer school is scheduled to commence on May 28th, running through June 20th. The success of summer school programs in Lawrence County was highlighted during the discussion.
Furthermore, it was revealed that the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a long-term study on growth capacity and related issues is due on June 13th. Adjustments to the 2024-2025 school year calendar were also disclosed, with Summertown High School’s graduation being rescheduled to Thursday, May 15th.
Adkins took the opportunity to commend various sports teams and the Knowledge Bowl, which was commemorating its 40th year of existence. The dedication and achievements of these groups were acknowledged during the meeting, underscoring the district’s commitment to both academic and extracurricular excellence.
