Modifications Underway for Passport Regulations

Residents of Lawrence County are currently facing changes in the passport application process due to a recent presidential directive that recognizes only two genders. As a result, all passport forms that included additional gender options are now deemed invalid. Russ Brewer, the county clerk for Lawrence County, along with clerks from across the nation, is in a holding pattern as they await the release of updated forms that comply with this new directive.

In the interim, individuals who are looking to apply for a new passport, renew an existing one, or make a name change can find the necessary forms on the U.S. Department of State’s official website at www.travel.state.gov. After completing the forms, residents are encouraged to visit the County Clerk’s office, where they can finalize their applications and have their passport photos taken. This process aims to ensure that all residents can navigate the changes smoothly while adhering to the new regulations.
