Nancy Gail Coker Dickerson, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away on Friday, January 24th, at the age of 78. Born and raised in Florence, Nancy dedicated her life to her family, community, and church. She was preceded in death by her father, Columbus Coker, mother, Dot Bevis Coker, and her brother, Steve Coker.
Nancy was a devoted wife of 58 years to her sweetheart, Otis Ray Dickerson, and a loving mother to her children, Dr. Adam Dickerson, Molly Dickerson, and Aron Dickerson. She cherished her role as NaeNae to her grandchildren, Braxton and Sydney Dickerson, who brought her immense joy and pride. Nancy is also survived by her brother, Tommy Coker.
A faithful member of Atlas Church of Christ, Nancy was known for her love of cooking and cake decorating. She generously shared her talents with the community, baking countless cakes for various occasions and volunteering her time for numerous roles within the Greenhill community. Nancy was a dedicated advocate of the beef industry, serving as President of the Lauderdale County Cattlewomen’s Association and the State Cattlewomen’s Association. She also held leadership positions in the Alfa Women’s Committee and the local chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
After 20 years, Nancy retired from the Lauderdale County Extension program, where she taught food and nutrition classes to expectant mothers, sharing her passion for cooking and healthy living. She also served as President of the Greenhill Senior Citizens, further demonstrating her commitment to serving others.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Atlas Church of Christ on Monday, January 27th, with the funeral service taking place on Tuesday, January 28th. Nancy will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, surrounded by her loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Alabama Children’s Home. Nancy will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her legacy of love, service, and dedication will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
