In a recent development, a man from Lawrence County has been taken into custody on charges of Stalking and Harassment. The arrest occurred on Monday, April 7th, and the alleged offenses date back to April 8th, 2024. The formal charges were officially filed on April 7th, 2025.
Lawrence County Sheriff John Myers provided insights into the situation, noting that the investigation leading to these charges was extensive and involved collaboration with other agencies, including the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Additionally, Brent Cooper, the District Attorney for the 22nd Judicial District, confirmed the charges against Joshua Matthew Byrd. He stated, “I can confirm that after an investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Matthew Byrd has been charged with Stalking and Harassment.” Both charges are classified as Class A Misdemeanors, which could result in a maximum sentence of 11 months and 29 days in jail if convicted.
