In a collaborative effort between Friends of Lawrence County Animals (FOLCA) and The Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce, a reception was held this morning to introduce Ginger Morgan as the new Director of The Doggie House – Lawrenceburg Animal Shelter. Morgan takes over from April Shahan, who recently rejoined Maury County Animal Services.
City of Lawrenceburg Administrator, Dick McKinnly, expressed his excitement about Morgan’s appointment, citing her leadership qualities and extensive experience in shelter management and animal welfare non-profits, particularly in communications. Morgan’s background includes serving as the Director of The Memphis Humane Society and as President of PuppyUp, a canine cancer awareness association.
While the shelter is currently open for adoptions, it is closed to new intakes except for law enforcement emergencies. McKinnly acknowledged the challenges posed by shelters reaching capacity and highlighted Morgan’s focus on reducing resident numbers through adoption, transport, and rescue partnerships to expedite the reopening for community dog admissions.
Rosalind O’Steen Fort, the new President of FOLCA, expressed enthusiasm about Morgan’s arrival and the anticipated positive impact on the shelter. She emphasized the strong partnership between FOLCA and the shelter, hinting at future collaborations to be unveiled at upcoming events.
Director Morgan expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed her eagerness to make a difference in the lives of animals in Lawrence County. She looks forward to working closely with FOLCA on various projects, including the conversion of a dog adoption truck and the expansion of the shelter campus with a new intake building.
