A new hot-mix asphalt plant is set to be established in New Prospect, according to County Commissioner Rick Skillington, who revealed the news last Thursday. The Rogers Group has received the necessary approval from the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to construct the facility, which will be located just east of the New Prospect school, nestled between Old Highway 64 and the 64 Bypass.
Local residents have expressed their concerns regarding the lack of public notification about the project, which has left them feeling excluded from the decision-making process. Many community members are particularly worried about the potential for unpleasant fumes emanating from the plant, which they fear could impact their quality of life.
Commissioner Skillington noted that construction on the asphalt plant has already commenced, although a timeline for when the facility will begin operations has yet to be established. The situation continues to develop as residents seek more information and clarity regarding the implications of this new industrial addition to their community.
