North Alabama Medical Center Welcomes New Chief Nursing Officer, Previously with STRHS-Lawrenceburg

Melissa Armstead, MSN, RN, has been named the new Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) at North Alabama Medical Center (NAMC), a part of Lifepoint Health, effective June 1, 2025. A native of Muscle Shoals, Armstead arrives with over eighteen years of experience in nursing leadership and a deep commitment to patient-centered care. Her return to North Alabama is fueled by a strong desire to serve the community that played a significant role in her upbringing.

Expressing her enthusiasm for this new chapter, Armstead stated, “Coming home to serve the people of Florence and the surrounding areas is a profound honor.” She emphasized her commitment to nurturing a culture of compassion and excellence at NAMC, ensuring that patients receive top-notch care while also supporting the dedicated nursing staff.

Prior to this appointment, Armstead held the position of CNO at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System (STRHS) – Lawrenceburg, a facility under Lifepoint Health, since June 2023. During her tenure there, she was part of the executive team that earned Lifepoint Health’s 2023 Operational Excellence Award. In her new role at NAMC, she will oversee quality improvement initiatives, manage nursing operations, and enhance staff development programs.

Armstead’s extensive background includes various leadership roles in acute care environments, where she has successfully implemented innovative patient care models that have improved clinical outcomes. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Alabama, along with a Certificate for Professionals in Patient Safety. Her appointment marks a significant step forward in NAMC’s mission to elevate healthcare standards in the region.
