A significant drug enforcement operation conducted by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the 32nd Judicial District Drug and Violent Crime Task Force resulted in several arrests and the issuance of 38 warrants on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
In the early hours of the day, deputies initiated a traffic stop after noticing Thomas Ray driving a distinctive black and green Dodge Charger. Ray, who was already known to have a suspended license and was currently on probation, agreed to allow deputies to search his vehicle. During the search, law enforcement officials uncovered two glass pipes containing residue, a small bag with approximately 0.49 grams of methamphetamine, and a marijuana grinder. Following this discovery, Ray was taken into custody and transported to the Lewis County Jail, where he now faces charges that include possession of methamphetamine, driving with a suspended license, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
As the day progressed, authorities executed a probation search at a residence located on Mill Avenue. This search yielded a variety of illegal substances and drug-related paraphernalia. Among the items found were over 12 grams of methamphetamine, half a gram of fentanyl, marijuana wax, digital scales, and several prescription medications, including Gabapentin, Buprenorphine/Naloxone, and Morphine.
At the conclusion of this operation, four individuals—Vonda Mercer, Gwendolyn Shirley, Samantha Spurgeon, and Harley Gallaher—were arrested at the location and subsequently booked into the Lewis County Jail. They are now facing a range of charges, both misdemeanor and felony, which include possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and intent to manufacture, deliver, or sell controlled substances.
The sheriff’s office reiterated its unwavering commitment to combating illegal drug activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of the Lewis County community.
