Outcomes from the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners Meeting

On Tuesday, May 27th, at 5:00 PM, the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners convened for their Regular Session meeting, which featured a series of recognitions and resolutions. The session commenced with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the Loretto Mustangs basketball team, celebrating their impressive accomplishments during the 2024-2025 season.

During the meeting, the bi-monthly financial reports presented by the fiscal agent and the director of schools received unanimous approval. Additionally, the election of notaries and the report from the resolution committee were both passed without dissent. Following these items, several key resolutions were addressed. The resolution to approve the minutes from the January 28th meeting, as well as amendments to both the 2024-2025 Lawrence County budget and the Lawrence County Board of Education budget, all passed unanimously.

The commissioners also unanimously approved a resolution confirming the appointment of Steve Hagan to various committees within the Lawrence County Board of County Commissioners. Other resolutions that garnered unanimous support included the declaration of certain property from the Lawrence County Highway Department as surplus, along with the approval for its disposal. The board also adopted policies and procedures related to the HOME Grant awarded by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency and designated a gift to the Lawrence County Public Library for capital projects, which will be placed in a special interest fund.

Further resolutions that received unanimous approval involved the acquisition of land adjacent to the Lawrence County Public Library in collaboration with the City of Lawrenceburg, an increase in litigation taxes for the General Sessions Court in Lawrence County, and the approval to write off library books from the fixed asset system while maintaining a spreadsheet to adhere to the current capital asset policy.

The meeting concluded with the passage of several additional resolutions, including the approval of an application for a “Small Cities” Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the Leoma Utility District, aimed at constructing a new water booster station, along with a commitment for matching funds from the Lawrence County Government. The acceptance of a TPS Grant for the Lawrence County Public Library, which requires a contribution of $2,222.00 from the library along with further matching funds from private donations, was also approved. Lastly, the appointment to the Solid Waste Regional Board was confirmed, rounding out a productive session for the commissioners.
