Outcomes from the March Regular Session of the Lawrence County Commission Meeting

On Tuesday, March 25th, the Lawrence County Commission convened for a Regular Session, where a comprehensive agenda featuring fifteen distinct items was addressed. Among the key topics discussed were the approval of minutes from prior meetings and amendments to the budget for both the county and the Board of Education for the fiscal years 2024-2025. Additionally, the commission confirmed the appointment of Steve Hagan to several committees and declared certain assets of the Lawrence County Highway Department as surplus, paving the way for their disposal.

County Executive David Morgan introduced a resolution aimed at adopting the policies and procedures associated with the HOME Grant, which has been awarded by the Tennessee Housing Development Agency. The budget committee also reviewed six additional items, one of which involved designating a donation to the Lawrence County Public Library. This donation will be allocated to a Special Interest-Bearing Fund, with the interest generated earmarked for future capital projects.

In a collaborative effort with the City of Lawrenceburg, the commission discussed the acquisition of approximately 0.76 acres of land adjacent to the library, intended for future expansion. Other financial matters included a proposal to increase litigation taxes for the general sessions court and the approval to write off certain library books from the fixed asset system, along with the maintenance of a spreadsheet to ensure compliance with established policies.

Furthermore, the commission moved forward with submitting an application for the “Small Cities” Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) aimed at the Leoma Utility District, which is intended for the construction of a new water booster station. The meeting concluded with the approval of matching funds to be provided by the Lawrence County Government. All items on the agenda were successfully passed, and under a suspension of the rules, Commissioner Will Burnett was appointed to the Regional Solid Waste Planning Board.
