Rep. Clay Doggett Advocates for Upcoming Sales Tax Holiday to Support Back-to-School Shopping

State Representative Clay Doggett is urging families residing in House District 70, as well as those throughout Tennessee, to take full advantage of the upcoming back-to-school sales tax holiday. This annual event is set to take place from Friday, July 25, through Sunday, July 27.

During this tax-free weekend, shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of qualifying items without incurring state sales tax. Items that qualify for this exemption include clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less, school supplies and art materials under $100 each, and computers or tablets that cost less than $1,500.

Doggett highlighted the significance of this sales tax holiday, noting that it can lead to substantial savings for families as they gear up for the new school year. Parents and students can buy essential items such as shirts, shoes, backpacks, pens, and binders without the added burden of sales tax, whether shopping in physical stores or online.

Since the inception of this initiative in 2011, Tennessee has provided its residents with over $5.1 billion in tax relief. The state is known for its absence of a personal income tax and consistently ranks as one of the most fiscally responsible and lowest-taxed states in the country.

Representing District 70 in the Tennessee House of Representatives, Doggett’s constituency includes Giles County and portions of Lawrence and Lincoln counties. For further details regarding the sales tax holiday, individuals can visit the official website at www.tntaxholiday.com.
