Robert Bernard Russ of St. Joseph went to be with the Lord on February 16, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born on March 23, 1936, in Wayne County (Holly Creek), Tennessee. He attended Loretto High School and after serving three years in the Army moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he met and married the love of his life, Violet. After several years in Detroit they moved back to Tennessee, where he served for many years as the City Manager of St. Joseph until retirement.
Bernard was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Loretto, serving as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years. He loved his Lord, his family, his church and Sunday school class, and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Violet Allison Russ, parents Courtney and Inez Russ, brothers Leroy (Mary) and Lloyd Russ, and sister Lena Kilgo. He is survived by his son Bobby (Jeannette) and his grandchildren Rachel and Timothy, in whom he took great delight. He is also survived by his sister Kathryn Roberson (George), numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Loretto on Tuesday, February 20, with the funeral service following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo cemetery. Pastor James Prince will be officiating.
