Mary Anne Christian from the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network delivered an engaging presentation at the Lawrenceburg Rotary Club last Friday. The Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network, a statewide organization, is dedicated to eradicating the stigma surrounding suicide. Nationally, there are over 1.9 million suicide attempts each year, and in 2022, there were nearly 50,000 reported deaths by suicide. Christian emphasized that suicide is the most preventable cause of death if the public is educated and aware of the risk factors and warning signs. Her organization is actively working to raise awareness and provide training in suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention. The network, which is grant-funded, offers free training.
