On Thursday night, December 18, Lawrence County experienced significant flooding and wind damage due to severe storms that swept through the area. Numerous roads were inundated, with reports of flooding on East Gaines Street, Annie Rooney Road, Springer Road, Weakley Creek Road, North Locust Avenue, and Buffalo Road. The Five Points neighborhood also faced similar challenges. Residents expressed concerns about persistent drainage problems, particularly on Stephens Street near Buffalo Road, where flooding has been known to reach waist-deep levels during intense rainfall.
In addition to the flooding, high winds wreaked havoc across the county, leading to extensive property damage. In Ethridge, a heavy-duty portable garage was uprooted and carried across nearly an acre of land, ultimately crashing into a tree on Buffalo Road. The storm also caused a window to crack and blew a window screen inward on the same property. Furthermore, a tree fell onto a house on Jill Drive in the New Prospect area, resulting in a partial collapse of the structure. The storms also led to multiple power outages throughout the county, leaving many residents without electricity as they dealt with the aftermath of the severe weather.
