On Wednesday, April 9th, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, Collier Street will be temporarily closed to facilitate a Mock Crash Event aimed at Loretto High School students. This impactful demonstration will involve various local emergency response teams, including the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Lawrence County Ambulance Services, Air Evac, Loretto Police Department, Saint Joseph Police Department, Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Loretto Fire Department, and Giles County EMS.
The event is set to take place in the gravel parking lot at the intersection of Collier Street and Riddle Lane, providing students with a firsthand look at how emergency personnel respond to a crash scenario. Participants will simulate injuries and fatalities to create a realistic experience that underscores the serious consequences of reckless behaviors such as drunk driving, distracted driving, and excessive speed.
While attendance at the event is encouraged, students who may find the experience distressing will have the option to remain in the library during the demonstration. The school administration is aware that the mock crash may evoke strong emotions, and counselors will be available on-site to offer support to any students who need it. This initiative aims to emphasize the critical importance of safe driving practices among young drivers.
As a reminder, please be aware that Collier Street will be closed during the event, and alternative routes should be planned accordingly.
