Special Meeting Scheduled to Appoint New Giles County Sheriff

Attention all residents: A special meeting of the Giles County Commission is scheduled for Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. The purpose of this meeting is to appoint a new Giles County Sheriff following the vacancy created by Mr. Kyle Helton’s departure. This appointment will be made in accordance with Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA) sections 5-1-104 and 8-8-106, which outline the procedures for such elections.

Individuals interested in running for the position of sheriff must meet specific qualifications, which can be obtained by referencing TCA 8-8-102. This announcement serves as a formal invitation to all eligible citizens residing within Giles County who wish to be considered for this role, barring those disqualified by the Constitution or the laws of Tennessee. According to TCA 8-8-102(b)(3)(D), it is essential that candidates possess POST certification.

To ensure that the Giles County Commission is informed in advance, any individual wishing to be nominated for the sheriff position must submit a letter to the County Executive’s Office no later than Friday, November 8th, at 12:00 p.m. The mailing address for submissions is P.O. It is important to note that while advance nominations are encouraged, residents of Giles County are still welcome to propose their candidacy from the courtroom gallery during the meeting on November 12th. However, such nominations must be made by a county commissioner.
