Special Session Held by Lawrence County Commission

In a special session held on Tuesday night, the Lawrence County Commission made significant decisions that will impact the county’s future. Among the key items voted on was the approval of the 2024-2025 budget, which notably did not include a tax increase. The budget also included a $20.8 million bond allocation, with $6 million earmarked for improving Lawrence County roads, $12 million designated for upcoming school construction projects, and funds allocated for capital projects such as convenience centers for trash and recyclable disposal, as well as enhancements to various county buildings.

Additionally, a resolution to acquire land for a new 12,500-square-foot Lawrence County Health Department between Mahr and Liberty Avenues using federal and state COVID relief funds was passed. This move underscores the county’s commitment to enhancing public health infrastructure in response to the ongoing pandemic.

Furthermore, the commission renewed the lease for Columbia State Community College at the Southern Tennessee Higher Education Center, ensuring continued access to higher education opportunities for residents. This decision reflects the county’s dedication to supporting educational initiatives that benefit the community as a whole.
