**A Call for Reflection and Unity in Tennessee**
By State Senator Page Walley
July 29, 2024
As we navigate this election season, it is crucial to take a moment to reflect and pray for our beloved state while also embracing the values of civility. This week marks the conclusion of a month-long journey across Tennessee led by my esteemed colleague, State Representative Monte Fritts, alongside his wife, Denice. They have been actively promoting House Joint Resolution 803 (www.Pray4TN.us), which implores our state to seek divine mercy and healing. I am proud to co-sponsor this bipartisan initiative, which draws inspiration from the legacies of our nation’s founding figures, such as John Adams and Abraham Lincoln. This resolution encourages all Tennesseans to engage in self-reflection and to appeal to Almighty God for His blessings upon our state throughout July 2024.
It has been a true honor to join many of you as we read this resolution in each county within our district. I urge you to continue your prayers for Tennessee and for our fellow citizens, extending beyond the end of July. As we approach the start of the new school year this coming week, let us particularly keep our educators and students in our thoughts and prayers.
In our current climate, we find ourselves in a nation where divisive forces are at play. It appears that we have strayed from the path of engaging in disagreements without resorting to hostility. We must strive to show respect for one another and engage in civil discourse rather than condescension or condemnation. While spirited debate is essential, it should never devolve into the demonization of those with differing views. It is vital to remember that everyone is facing their own challenges, and a gentle response can often diffuse tension.
I remain committed to self-examination as I work diligently to serve as a responsible senator for our constituents. I have faith in the goodness of our people and believe that we can enhance our approach to caring for and respecting one another, ultimately propelling our district forward.
