The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has been honored with six prestigious awards from the Nashville chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) for its impactful litter prevention initiative, known as the “Nobody Trashes Tennessee” campaign. This recognition was bestowed during the 39th Annual Parthenon Awards, an event that highlights exceptional public relations efforts throughout Middle Tennessee.
Among the accolades received, TDOT’s 2024 “No Trash November” initiative stood out, securing Parthenon Awards in three distinct categories: Integrated Communications, Monthly Observance, and Kick-Off News Release. In addition to these honors, the campaign also garnered a Merit Award for its effective Media Relations strategy. Furthermore, two additional Merit Awards were awarded for the Trash Masters Rewards program, which promotes individual efforts to combat litter, and for the Bear-Proof Trash Can Campaign, developed in collaboration with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
The 2024 edition of No Trash November saw an impressive turnout, with over 2,200 volunteers participating in 154 cleanup events across the state. This collective effort resulted in the removal of more than 86,000 pounds of litter, showcasing the campaign’s success in rallying community members, youth organizations, and partner entities to address the detrimental impact of litter on Tennessee’s roads and waterways.
Over the last three years, the Nobody Trashes Tennessee campaign has amassed a total of 13 Parthenon Awards along with six Merit Awards, reflecting its sustained commitment to environmental stewardship. Additionally, the campaign has achieved national acclaim, highlighted by an Award of Excellence at the 2024 PRSA Anvil Awards, further solidifying its reputation as a leader in litter prevention efforts.
