In Tennessee, the average price of gasoline saw a decrease of four cents last week, resulting in a new average of $2.71 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel. This recent drop marks a decline of seven cents compared to prices from a month ago and is 14 cents lower than the same time last year. As a result, Tennessee ranks as the seventh least expensive state for gasoline in the country.
On a national scale, the average price for regular gasoline has also experienced a reduction, falling five cents to reach $3.08 per gallon. This downward trend can be attributed to a combination of lower consumer demand and a robust supply of gasoline, as inventories have increased during the transition to winter-grade fuel.
When examining regional price variations within Tennessee, it becomes evident that there are notable differences across various metropolitan areas. The cities with the highest gas prices include Jackson at $2.78 per gallon, followed closely by Memphis at $2.75, and Nashville at $2.73. Conversely, the more affordable options can be found in Clarksville, where prices are at $2.62, followed by Chattanooga at $2.64, and Cleveland at $2.66.
