Tennessee Highway Patrol Celebrates Graduation of 33 New Officers

On Wednesday, June 18th, a new cohort of Tennessee State Troopers celebrated their graduation, marking a significant milestone in their law enforcement careers. The ceremony took place at the Hermitage Hills Baptist Church, located on Lebanon Pike in Nashville, where they were warmly welcomed by Colonel Matt Perry of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) and Commissioner Jeff Long from the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security.

The graduates of Trooper Cadet Class 625 completed an intensive 17-week training program that exceeded the standards set by the Tennessee Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Commission. This class is notable not only for its rigorous training but also for the impressive backgrounds of its members. Collectively, the 33 graduates bring with them a remarkable 86 years of military experience. Among them, nine cadets hold bachelor’s degrees, one has earned a master’s degree, and two possess associate’s degrees.

In addition to their academic and military accomplishments, the cadets actively participated in community service, notably taking part in Nashville’s Special Olympics Torch Run to support the Tennessee Special Olympics. During the graduation ceremony, Commissioner Jeff Long delivered an inspiring keynote address and had the honor of administering the oath of office to the new troopers.

Highlighting the achievements of the cadets, Trooper Dustin Garrett was recognized with the Trooper Calvin Jenks Memorial Award for Excellence, an accolade that celebrates outstanding leadership, dedication, and academic performance. This prestigious award is named in memory of Trooper Calvin Jenks, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty in January 2007. The recognition of Trooper Garrett underscores the commitment and excellence that the Tennessee Highway Patrol strives to uphold in its ranks.
