Tennessee Highway Patrol Implements Sobriety Safety Checkpoints

During the week of November 29th, 2024, the Tennessee Highway Patrol is set to implement sobriety checkpoints along State Route 98, specifically at the 5.5-mile marker in Lawrence County. This initiative aims to combat impaired driving, a significant issue that results in over 16,000 fatalities and approximately 305,000 injuries annually across the United States.

At these checkpoints, law enforcement officers will assess drivers for indications of alcohol or drug impairment. The focus will be on identifying individuals who are operating vehicles under the influence, while also addressing any other traffic violations that may be observed. This proactive measure is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of all road users and to promote responsible driving practices.
