In an effort to enhance traffic safety during the Independence Day holiday, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) has announced a series of sobriety checkpoints throughout southern Middle Tennessee for the weekend of July 4th and 5th. This initiative is designed to combat impaired driving and minimize the number of alcohol-related accidents during one of the busiest travel times of the year.
On Friday, July 4th, checkpoints will be established at several key locations. In Giles County, officers will be positioned on U.S. Highway 31 near the 14-mile marker. Meanwhile, in Wayne County, a checkpoint will be set up on State Route 13 North at the U.S. 64 underpass. Additionally, in Marshall County, the THP will monitor traffic on State Route 50 at the 0-mile marker, and in Lincoln County, a checkpoint will be located on State Route 121 at the 2-mile marker, just west of Elora.
The enforcement efforts will continue into Saturday, July 5th, with a checkpoint planned in Lewis County on U.S. Highway 412, approximately 0.2 miles east of the 1-mile marker. These checkpoints are part of the THP’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of Tennessee’s roadways, particularly during holiday periods when the incidence of impaired driving tends to increase.
Troopers are urging all motorists to make responsible decisions while celebrating. This includes refraining from drinking and driving, consistently wearing seatbelts, and arranging for a sober ride if necessary. The THP emphasizes the importance of celebrating responsibly to help guarantee a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend for everyone.
