Tennessee to Reintroduce Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday from July 25 to July 27

Tennessee is set to kick off its back-to-school sales tax holiday from Friday, July 25, through Sunday, July 27. This initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families as they prepare for the upcoming academic year. During this tax-free weekend, shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of qualifying items without incurring state sales tax.

The exemptions during this period include clothing and footwear priced at $100 or less per item, as well as school and art supplies that are each under $100. Additionally, computers and tablets that cost less than $1,500 are also included in the tax exemption. Essential items for students, such as backpacks, notebooks, pens, and shoes, are all eligible for these savings.

Both in-store and online purchases will qualify for the tax holiday, providing families with greater flexibility to take advantage of the discounts. This sales tax holiday is part of Tennessee’s broader effort to offer financial relief to its residents. Since the inception of this initiative in 2011, the state has successfully provided over $5.1 billion in tax savings, reinforcing its reputation as one of the most fiscally responsible and lowest-taxed states in the country.
