Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Hosts Youth Squirrel Hunting Event

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is organizing a youth squirrel hunting event on Saturday, January 25th, 2025, to honor the memory of GW Cobb, a dedicated volunteer who recently passed away. This special hunt is set to kick off at 7:30 AM at the Gum Springs Missionary Baptist Church, located at 932 Wesley Chapel Rd, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464. It is open to young participants aged 6 to 16, with specific requirements for older youth. Those between the ages of 10 and 16 must have either completed a hunter safety course or hold an apprentice hunting license to participate.

To register for this exciting opportunity, interested hunters should reach out to Ethan Brown at 629-224-7025, providing their name and age before the registration deadline of Friday, January 24th, 2025. The hunt will utilize trained squirrel dogs, and participants will be organized into small groups, each accompanied by a guide and a dog handler to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. The hunting activities will take place on private lands as well as the Laurel Hill Wildlife Management Area.

Participants can look forward to a hearty breakfast and lunch, which will be served at the church. The event is scheduled to wrap up by 1:00 PM. Additionally, the organizers welcome volunteers who wish to assist as guides or help with the youth hunt. Those interested in contributing can also contact Ethan Brown at the same phone number. This event aims to provide a fun and educational introduction to the sport of squirrel hunting, particularly through the engaging use of dogs.
