The Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has taken significant action by arresting three women linked to a troubling case of child sexual abuse involving a victim who is under the age of 12. The investigation was initiated after a report was made on July 12, which detailed allegations of sexual abuse and sodomy against a young child.
As the inquiry progressed, law enforcement officials were able to establish probable cause, leading to the apprehension of the following individuals: Crystal Lee McCart, a 38-year-old resident of Athens, faces charges of sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old. She is currently being held on a bond set at $250,000.
In addition, Gayla Michelle Kyle, aged 50 and also from Athens, has been charged with sodomy. She appeared in court for an Aniah’s Law hearing on Monday, during which her bond was denied. Furthermore, Monica Anne Campbell, a 40-year-old from Elkmont, is similarly charged with sodomy and is awaiting her own Aniah’s Law hearing to determine whether she will be held without bond.
Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin expressed his deep concern regarding the nature of this case, reiterating the department’s dedication to ensuring that justice is served for the victim involved. He praised the diligent efforts of the investigators and acknowledged the valuable support provided by the Limestone Child Advocacy Center throughout the ongoing investigation. The sheriff’s office has indicated that the investigation remains active, and further details will not be disclosed at this time.
