A tragic incident occurred on Thursday, May 15th, at approximately 2:05 PM, resulting in the death of a young individual. The accident involved a single vehicle and took place in Lauderdale County, specifically on Rasch Road near Augusta Street, roughly one mile west of Florence.
Michael W. Ghrigsby, a 60-year-old resident of Florence, was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado when he collided head-on with a 2009 Honda CRF230M motorcycle, which was being ridden by an 18-year-old. The impact of the crash caused significant injuries to the young rider. Following the accident, he was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical personnel, the 18-year-old ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate collision.
