The Tennessee Department of Transportation is teaming up with states nationwide to urge drivers to cooperate by moving over and reducing speed for highway workers. TDOT will be promoting this initiative throughout National Work Zone Awareness Week to enhance safety in Tennessee’s interstate and highway construction and maintenance zones. With the arrival of spring and summer, ideal weather conditions pave the way for increased highway work activities. These work zones encompass a wide range of tasks, from major interstate expansion projects to basic maintenance like filling potholes and grass cutting. Motorists can expect to encounter work zones throughout the state. Tragically, last year in Tennessee, there were 22 fatalities resulting from crashes in work zones on state roads. Alarmingly, this year has already seen 29 incidents where drivers collided with TDOT equipment and vehicles.
