TWRA Invites Public Feedback on Proposed Fishing Regulations for 2026–27

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has initiated a public comment period regarding its proposed fishing regulations for the 2026–27 season. This initiative provides an opportunity for anglers throughout the state to voice their opinions on the management of Tennessee’s fisheries.

From August 1 to August 27, 2025, individuals can submit their thoughts, concerns, and recommendations through an online platform. The feedback collected during this period will be carefully reviewed by TWRA staff and will be taken into account alongside scientific assessments of fish populations to inform future regulatory decisions.

In early 2026, the proposed changes will be presented at a meeting of the Tennessee Fish and Wildlife Commission. Following this presentation, there will be another opportunity for public comment, allowing for further input before the final regulations are established. Any changes that are approved will come into effect on August 1, 2026.

TWRA fisheries biologists employ various methods to assess fish populations, utilizing data related to species growth, density, mortality rates, and recruitment patterns. The agency is also committed to enhancing fish habitats, stocking a diverse range of fish species, and conducting surveys to gauge anglers’ preferences, fishing efforts, catch rates, and the economic impact of fishing activities.
