Uhland Ottis Redd III

Uhland Ottis Redd III, a beloved member of the Florence, Alabama community, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025. Born on March 10, 1937, in Tuscumbia, AL, to Ellen Mitchell and Uhland Ottis Redd, Jr., Uhland was a dedicated family man, successful businessman, and active community member.

Uhland attended Kilby Training School and Coffee High School, where he served as President of the Student Council. He furthered his education at the University of Alabama, graduating with a B.S. degree in Commerce and Business Administration. Following his military service as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and the Alabama National Guard, Uhland joined the family business, Florence Lumber Company, where he later became the third-generation owner.

In 1965, Uhland married Josephine Elizabeth England, and together they raised three sons, Edmund, Mitchell, and Uhland IV. He was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church of Florence, where he served as both Deacon and Elder, and was active in various community organizations, including the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Boards of the Shoals YMCA, the Boy Scouts, and the University of North Alabama President’s Cabinet.

Uhland was known for his love of Florence, his passion for Alabama football, and his joy in sharing stories about the city’s history and its remarkable people. He will be remembered as a kind and selfless Southern gentleman who set a lasting example for his sons and worked to help those less fortunate.

He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine, three sons, and seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:00, followed by a visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to various charitable organizations.
