On Saturday, the North Alabama volleyball team achieved a significant milestone by clinching their second consecutive appearance in the ASUN tournament. This accomplishment highlights the team’s growing success and competitiveness within the league. In a related development, head coach Tristan Johnson has recently secured a new contract, as announced by the university on Monday. The extension will keep Johnson at the helm for an additional two years, extending his tenure through the 2027 season, with an option for 2028.
While the university has opted not to disclose specific financial details regarding the contract, it is anticipated that Johnson’s salary for the current year will be just above $74,000. This move aligns with a trend established during Josh Looney’s tenure as athletic director, where two-year contract extensions have become a common practice for coaches across various sports.
In recent months, other coaches have also received similar extensions, reflecting the university’s commitment to maintaining a strong athletic program. For instance, in October, Tony Pujol, the head coach of the men’s basketball team, finalized a two-year extension. Additionally, beach volleyball coach Kaleb VanDePerre signed a contract extension that will keep him with the program until 2026, while softball coach Ashley Cozart secured her extension through 2028. Furthermore, last November, soccer coach Chris Walker also agreed to a two-year contract, underscoring the university’s strategy of investing in its coaching staff to foster continued success across its athletic programs.
