In August, every county in Tennessee experienced a decline in unemployment rates, as revealed by the latest figures from the Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Out of the 95 counties in the state, a remarkable 90 reported jobless rates below the 5% mark. Meanwhile, the remaining five counties had rates that reached or exceeded 5%. Notably, Perry County recorded the highest unemployment rate at 5.4%, although this figure represents a significant decrease of 1.5 percentage points from the previous month of July.
In addition, Hardeman, Lauderdale, and Meigs counties each reported unemployment rates of 5.1%. On the other end of the spectrum, Sevier County maintained the lowest unemployment rate for the third consecutive month, standing at an impressive 2.7%. Following closely were Cheatham County at 2.8% and Williamson County at 2.9%. The overall statewide unemployment rate, which is seasonally adjusted, was recorded at 3.6% for August. It is important to note that the unemployment rates for individual counties are not seasonally adjusted. Looking ahead, state officials have announced that the unemployment report for September is scheduled for release on October 16.
