Randy Boyd, who serves as the president of the University of Tennessee System, is set to propose Dr. Melinda Arnold for the role of chancellor at the University of Tennessee Southern. Dr. Arnold currently holds the position of special assistant to the president at Texas A&M University–Texarkana. In the coming weeks, a special meeting of the UT Board of Trustees will convene to deliberate on Boyd’s recommendation. If approved, Dr. Arnold will officially assume her duties as chancellor on July 1, 2025.
Dr. Arnold brings with her a wealth of experience, having dedicated over two decades to various leadership roles within higher education. Throughout her career, she has focused on initiatives that enhance enrollment figures, develop in-demand academic programs, and broaden access to education. As chancellor, she will report directly to the president of the UT System, serving as the institution’s senior executive officer and joining the ranks of the UT System leadership team.
Her responsibilities will encompass the oversight of strategic planning and the implementation of initiatives that foster student success, ensure financial accountability, engage with the community, and promote institutional growth. Furthermore, she will play a crucial role in advancing academic excellence within the university.
