On Thursday, residents of Lawrence County made their way to the polls to participate in the state and federal primary elections, as well as the county general election. The turnout was recorded at 1,902 voters, reflecting a participation rate of 7 percent.
Several candidates emerged victorious without opposition in the general election. Bill Adams secured his position for School Board District 1 with a total of 194 votes, while Jerry Dryden received 190 votes for School Board District 4. Janet Alexander garnered 188 votes for School Board District 7, and Chad Shannon claimed 114 votes for School Board District 8. In the Circuit Court District 22, Julie Heffinton received a significant 1,463 votes, and John Brady Hutton was elected Assessor of Property with 1,578 votes.
In the Republican primary, Page Walley, Clay Dogget, Kip Capley, and Stacey Hardin Brewer all ran unopposed. Scott DesJarlais emerged as the winner in the primary race for U.S. House District 4, capturing 69 percent of the votes, which amounted to 1,047. Marsha Blackburn dominated the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, achieving an impressive 91.5 percent of the votes against Tres Wittum. On the Democratic side, Gloria Johnson secured 79 percent of the votes for the U.S. Senate position, totaling 223 votes.
Additionally, in the Democratic primary, candidates Victoria Broderick, Jason Luttrell, and Tim Coy also ran without opposition, further solidifying their positions within the party.
