National Police Week commenced on Sunday and is set to continue through Saturday. This week serves as a time for honoring, remembering, and providing peer support, allowing law enforcement personnel, survivors, and citizens to come together and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The inception of Police Week, in conjunction with Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th, dates back to 1962 when President John F. Kennedy first proclaimed it.
As part of the National Police Week observances, the 2024 Memorial Service by the Columbia Police Department, presented in collaboration with the Honor Guards of the Columbia Police Department and Maury County Sheriff’s Department, is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14th, at 7 PM. This year’s service will take place at Pleasant Heights Baptist Church located at 2712 Trotwood Avenue in Columbia.
