West Gaines School Community Center Persists in Fundraising Efforts

The community of West Gaines School is actively working towards raising funds for the restoration of the historic all-black school that closed its doors in 1964. This past weekend marked the fourth annual “Save the School” event, where supporters gathered to show their commitment to preserving this important piece of history.

The event featured guest speaker John Nelson, who shared insights and inspiration with attendees. Among those present was Rebecca Moore, a Lawrenceburg native and design instructor at Belmont University. Moore’s students are currently working on producing a full set of drawings that will be instrumental in aiding the restoration project.
