William Robert “Sweetpea” Thornton, 80, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026. Born on July 1, 1945, in Minor Hill, Tennessee, William dedicated his life to his work, family, and faith.
Sweetpea was a proud retiree of Murray Ohio, where he dedicated many years of service. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his family and his faith. He was a long-standing member of Immanuel Baptist Church. In his leisure, he found great pleasure in golfing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest Allen and Dorothy Irene Brewer Thornton, and his brothers, Charlie, Fred, Otis, and Clayton Thornton.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Adena Gail Daniel Thornton, and his children, Paul and Robert Thornton of Lawrenceburg, TN, and Belinda Putman (Jared) of Killen, AL. William took immense pride in his role as a grandfather to his beloved grandchildren, Drake, Kelsey, and Karmen Putman of Killen, AL, and Desiree Thornton of Mount Juliet, TN. Each of them will carry forward his legacy of kindness, integrity, and love.
Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at Mimosa Cemetery at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 6, 2026, with Reggie Coleman and Keith Durham officiating.
