Greetings on this Presidents Day from WLX! This holiday, which falls on the third Monday of February, owes its establishment to the Uniform Monday Holiday Act of 1968. Originally created in 1885, Presidents Day was intended to honor the birthday of George Washington, the nation’s first President. Interestingly, Washington was born on February 22, and this year marks the celebration of his 291st birthday. He took the historic step of assuming the presidency on April 30, 1789, becoming the first individual to hold this esteemed office. It is important to note that in recognition of this holiday, numerous government and municipal offices will be closed today.
