Florence Street Department Keeps Close Watch on Small Sinkhole

In Florence, the Street Department remains vigilant in overseeing a small sinkhole that emerged late last week. According to The Times Daily, a 3 by 3 foot sinkhole appeared on Friday night in the vicinity of Cole Avenue near South Main Street. After promptly filling the hole and outlining plans for continued monitoring and repaving, the situation took an unexpected turn on Saturday as the hole resurfaced.

Responding decisively, the Street Department took action by closing the street on Monday and initiating excavation efforts to identify the root cause. Despite thorough investigation, no definitive cause was pinpointed. To address the issue, the hole was filled with stone, followed by gravel to seal any crevices. The gravel was meticulously compacted before the area underwent repaving to ensure the safety and stability of the thoroughfare.
